Jan 11 Jan 11 Heart Pom Pom Door Hanger Rachel - Doodle and Stitch Gifts, Wool Craft a heart pom pom door hanger for your home! This simple pom pom craft will be a great addition to the home decor, or you could make it as a valentines gift. To make this heart pom pom decoration you will need: YarnEmbroidery thread - optional NeedleScissorsThin card Step 1Make a pom pom - if you know how to make a standard pom pom skip to step 4 (make three pom poms if you want to make the door hanger).Cut out two circles the same size from the card. Cut out a smaller circle in the middle of these to form two donut shapes. Put the two circles together and begin to wrap the wool around the edges of the card. (It is a lot quicker if you double (or quadruple) up the wool!) Step 2Continue wrapping the wool around the card until the inner circle is almost too small to put more through. Then, cut the wool around the edges as shown above. Make sure to hold the wool in place as it can move during this step. Step 3Tie a piece of wool of the same colour around the pom pom in between the two pieces of card. Make sure you pull it tightly and tie in a double knot! Trim the ends of this wool and rip off the card and you have your pom pom. Step 4Trim the pom pom into a heart shape. Start by cutting the bottom of the pom pom into a cone to form the bottom of the heart. Then cut a triangular shape into the top of the pom pom to form the top of the heart, and round the edges. Then continue to trim until the heart shape is really clear. The more you trim the more compact your heart will be.Continue steps 1-4 two more times to make another two heart pom poms. I made two pink hearts and one blue heart. Step 5Plait together the embroidery thread and tie a knot in the end. thread up through the bottom of one heart until the knot stops it (this will hold it in place). Then tie another knot about 10cm above the heart and thread the next heart on. Continue this until all the hearts are threaded onto the string. Then, tie a loop at the top so your pom poms can hang from the door handle!Subscribe to my newsletter to receive fun craft ideas weekly! Please note: this blog post contains affiliate links, however all opinions are my own and I only link to products that I personally use and recommend. Here's a video showing you how to make these heart pom poms.
