DIY Mermaid Shell Hair Clip Craft
This DIY mermaid shell hair clip craft is perfect for festivals, fancy dress, parties and lots more. They're also great to make for the kids, especially if they love mermaids! You can use the same technique to paint seashells to make mermaid necklaces, earrings and more.

To make this DIY mermaid accessory you will need:
Step 1:
Choose a shell that is the size that you want your hair clip to be and turn it upside down. Put a blob of glue on each end of the hair clip, then stick it to the underneath of the sea shell, holding it in place until the glue dries.
If you would rather make a mermaid necklace, you would instead have to drill a small hole into the top of the shell and thread the necklace chain through the hole.
Step 2:
Get a paint tray and put a blob of dark purple paint, light purple paint, light blue and turquoise/green onto it. Then use a paint brush to dab the dark purple paint onto the bottom of the front of the shell. I choose the dab the paint, rather than use brush strokes, and it blends the colours better. Then dab the light purple paint slightly further up the shell, overlapping the colours slightly. Repeat with the blue and green paints until your shell is covered, and you will be left will a mermaid coloured shell!
Step 3:
Sprinkle some clear or iridescent glitter over the top of the painted shell. This will give the shell an shiny effect, sticking to the mermaid theme. This step has to be done before the paint dries, otherwise the glitter will not stick to the shell. Turn the shell upside down and shake it to remove any excess glitter, then leave it to dry.
Step 4:
Use the glue gun to attach three small pearls to the bottom part of the painted shell. Add more pearls onto the shell if you wish! Once all the glue has dried your DIY mermaid shell hair clip is ready to wear!
